Description
The Tankerman is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of petroleum and chemical products to and from barges, ships, and other vessels. This individual must have knowledge of various types of tanks, pumps, valves, and pipelines, as well as the ability to operate them effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe and efficient loading, unloading, and transfer of liquid cargo to and from vessel
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment, such as pumps, hoses, and valves, to transfer cargo
- Monitor cargo levels and temperatures to ensure that the cargo is being transported safely and within regulatory requirements
- Conduct pre-transfer safety checks, such as testing cargo tanks and verifying that all valves are properly secured
- Communicate effectively with other crew members, shore personnel, and government officials to ensure that all aspects of the cargo transfer process are executed safely and efficiently
- Respond to emergency situations, such as spills or leaks, and take appropriate action to contain and mitigate the damage
- Maintain accurate records of all cargo transfers, including the type and quantity of cargo, the time of transfer, and any relevant environmental conditions
