This position will perform tasks related to the operation of diesel and electric drills. Will also manually measure drill holes after drilling, drill secondary blast holes, and position power cables when operating drill around shovels.
Responsibilities:
-Manage drilling quality primary blast holes, drilling to proper depth and proper collaring of drill holes
-Report any mechanical issues on drill steels, change bits and stabilizers and assist mechanics with pipe changes
-Communicate and interact with blasting crew to properly clear drill for blasting
-Safely position power cables when operating drill around shovels
Responsible for the knowledge and safe performance of the following procedures: drilling in fill, loading drill on low-boy, using drill fire suppression system, breaking drill pipe, mounting and dismounting of drill, lowering/raising the mast, and drilling near overhead power lines
-Perform proper tramming techniques including safely move from one drill hole to the next, properly and safely move from one bench to the next, properly and safely navigate on uneven grades, and properly securing the drill string
-Operate manual drills requiring monitoring manual gauges and manual operation and automated drill requiring use on online GPS system and monitoring of computer screens
-Communicate and interact with blasting crew to properly clear drill for blasting
