- Assisting the 2nd Assistant Engineer in overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of the vessel's engines, boilers, pumps, and other mechanical systems.
- Monitoring the vessel's fuel and water levels and assisting in the maintenance of the vessel's environmental control systems.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of the vessel's mechanical systems.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant national and international laws and regulations related to the operation and maintenance of the vessel's mechanical systems.
- Maintaining accurate records of the vessel's engineering activities, including logs of maintenance and repair work and fuel consumption.
- Assisting in managing the budget for the vessel's engineering department, including purchasing and inventory control.
- Participating in emergency response drills and exercises, and providing assistance during emergency situations.
- Coordinating with other shipboard departments, such as the Deck Department, to ensure that the vessel is operated safely and efficiently.
- Assisting in the installation and commissioning of new mechanical equipment, as needed.
